Melva Loves Scraps - the home of the Pieces From The Past Sew Along, the Santa Fe Trail Sew Along and the Pieces in the Garden and Pieces of My Life series!

I love scraps. I love vintage quilts and I love preserving the stories of quilters and the quilts they make.

I am a Homemaker who has a passion for all things quilty. I especially like a scrappy look. I love the challenge of working with scraps, remnants and cast-offs to make something beautiful.

Story Telling Quilts

Every quilt has a story, and every story can have a quilt

Pieces From the Past

The book, Pieces From The Past, brings together the stories, letters, family memories and recipes that were shared on-line. What started as a personal project to “preserve my family’s stories and history” became a project that has impacted and touched readers all around the world.

Pieces of the Santa Fe Trail

This book includes excerpts from "The Land of Enchantment - Memoirs of Marian Sloan Russell along the Santa Fe Trail". A pattern for a quilt block accompanies each story, that together tell the story of Marion Russell's life.

Pieces in the Garden

Pieces in the Garden tells the story of my maternal grandmother, Tressie Teegarden. Given her married name, and her and Grandpa's love for tea, the fabric chosen reflects the flowers often found on vintage tea sets. It's a row quilt, because... well, gardens are planted in rows! The blocks chosen are based on the story of a Bride-to-be and the many quilts she would have made as she waited for her special day.

Pieces of My Life

Similar to the Pieces in the Garden series, Pieces of My Life follows the story of a Bride's quilt.
My current sew along event follows suit with the previous events names.
It is a sew along that includes sixteen 12” blocks and eight 6” blocks, making a finished quilt of approximately 69” x 73” using a non-traditional layout for a sampler quilt.
A traditional layout design is also offered that will include only the 12” blocks, finishing at approximately 60” square.
